Captain Michael O'Shea

Captain Michael O’Shea is an 18-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Police.  He was promoted to the rank of Captain by Chief Margaret A. York in October 2004. Captain Michael O'Shea is the commanding officer at Harbor Station, Health Services Bureau. His overall mission is to create a partnership with the medical staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, combat crime, and protect the community of people who use and work at the facility.

Captain O’Shea’s law enforcement career began in 1989 as a police officer assigned to Castaic Station, Parks Services Bureau.  In 1995, he promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Parks Services Bureau, South Station where he received the employee of the month award for service.  He served on Community Parks Safety Committees (Lennox and Ted Watkins), and during the next several years, he was assigned to Belvedere, Whittier Narrows, and Bonelli stations, all in Parks Services Bureau.

In 2000, Captain O’Shea was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as the early morning Watch Commander at Olive View Medical Center Station, Health Services Bureau. In addition to his regular duties at Olive View Station, Captain O'Shea chaired the Communications Committee and was tasked with the initial research and development of a new radio system and dispatch center for the department.

In early 2001 he was loaned to the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) where he assisted managers and staff at OEM with emergency preparedness for the County of Los Angeles.  On September 11, 2001, Captain O’Shea was assigned to the City of Los Angeles’ Emergency Operations Center and was the liaison between the City and County governments for emergency services.  Soon after September 11, Captain O’Shea was tasked with providing instruction to County employees on terrorist-related information and prevention programs.  Captain O’Shea continues his service in emergency management and chairs the Emergency Management Preparedness Committee for the County Police to ensure operational readiness during man-made or natural disasters.

In 2002, Captain O’Shea was selected as the Adjutant to the Health Services Bureau Chief, where he assisted the Bureau Chief in the bureau’s day-to-day operations. 

Captain O’Shea is currently the Tactical Response Force (TRF) Manager for the Department.  He possesses a Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management P.O.S.T. certificates.  He is a graduate of the Rio Hondo Basic Police Academy class #125, the LASD Deputy Leadership Institute, and is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Bellevue University.

Captain O’Shea was born and raised in the West Los Angeles area, and lives with his wife and three children.
