Core Values

The men and women of the LA County Police

All personnel of this Office shall be service oriented and perform our duties with the highest possible degree of personal and professional integrity.

Service Oriented Policing means:

  • The protection of life and property

  • The prevention of crime and apprehension of criminals, especially within those properties we are charged with policing

  • Acting lawfully and professionally in all we do and say

  • Being fair and impartial and treating all people with the dignity they allow

  • Assisting our County family and its citizens in solving problems and maintaining harmony within all facilities we police

We shall treat every member of our Office, both sworn and civilian, as we would expect to be treated if the position were reversed.

We shall never knowingly break the law to enforce the law. Integrity is our standard. We are proud of our profession and will conduct ourselves in manner that merits the respect of all people.

Each member of this Office shall be fully accountable for their own actions or failures and, when appropriate, for the actions or failures of their subordinates. Our personal and professional behavior should be a model for all to follow.

In considering the use of force, we shall be bound by the axiom of reasonableness. In considering the use of deadly force, we shall always be guided by the reverence for human life.

Our people are our most important resource. We help them develop to their maximum potential by encouraging empowerment, building knowledge, and allowing the proper exercise of authority and appropriate discretion. Members of this Office promoted or selected for special assignments shall have demonstrated a history of practicing these core values.

  •  "Dedicating one’s life to serving your country and protecting others doesn’t just sound noble, it is noble.  I have dedicated my life to this; from my tour of duty in Iraq with the Marines, to my patrol time on the streets of LA County as a County Police Officer.  If you want different and exciting experiences with numerous opportunities to serve the public, join Los Angeles County Police.  We have various types of patrols; foot, bike, ATV, boat and vehicle.  I get to do something different every day and I enjoy making a difference in people’s lives; so will you, when you join our team." - Officer Wells
